The tiny community of Blacklick, Ohio began its life as a railroad station. Situated at the intersection of the railroad and High Street, this unincorporated community is considered part of southern Jefferson Township in Franklin County, and it is included in the Columbus Metropolitan area. Serving as the town’s namesake, Blacklick Creek flows through the town, giving locals a place to fish and children a place to splash in the warm summer months. The creek is a tributary stream of Big Walnut Creek, and was named by the indigenous Native Americans who took note of the animals that frequented the creek to lick its black-colored salt stones.
The small community of Blacklick does not have a school district, but is split into five of the neighboring town’s school districts. These include Reynoldsburg City Schools, New Albany-Plain Local School District, Licking Heights Local School District, Gahanna Jefferson City Schools, and Columbus City Schools. The schools in these districts are rated higher than average for the state, which is a definite draw for families to the area.
Blacklick offers small town living, friendly neighborhoods, and access to good schools. It’s close proximity to the bigger cities, such as Columbus, offers residents the best of both worlds.
