The city of Delaware is centrally-located in Ohio, about 30 miles north of Columbus, and is part of the Columbus Metropolitan Area. Joseph Barber was the first recorded settler in 1807, and shortly thereafter, other men began to settle the area. The official founding of the town was marked on March 11, 1808, when a plan of the city was filed.
