Whitehall is a suburban community southeast of Columbus, Ohio, in Franklin County. Whitehall’s beginnings date back to the early 19th century, when the Ye Olde Whitehall Tavern was created. Built on Robert Brotherton White Hall’s land between Big Walnut Creek and Alum Creek, this tavern was a popular overnight stagecoach stop along National Road. Abram Doney later purchased the land and the tavern in the late 19th century, and he went on to build a small farm community. Abram’s son, Samuel, inherited the entire estate in 1910 and eventually sold it off in one acre lots, creating what the locals refer as “Old Whitehall”.
Today, Whitehall is a thriving city with many businesses. The residents enjoy a small town lifestyle with all the benefits of a larger city. Whitehall’s convenient location makes traveling to Columbus easy. Some of the big companies in the area include Alliance Data, Apprisen Financial, Byers Auto, Dave Gill Chevrolet, and Dick Masheter Ford.
Whitehall houses a senior center and five parks that offer playgrounds and athletic fields. Music in the Park is a popular event that brings out the community, and the parks and recreation departments sponsors many sports leagues for children. The town’s indoor workout facility at the Whitehall Community Park Activity Center offers its members access to free weights, weight machines, treadmills, and a sauna, with onsite locker rooms and showers. The facility also offers classes in yoga, karate, ballet, and hip hop dance. There is also the Columbus Country Club, located on the eastern border of Whitehall.
