The Sells brothers, Perter and Benjamin, purchased 400 acres of land on the banks of the Scito River as a gift for their brother, John. John brought his family to the region in 1808, and by 1810 he and his partner, John Shields, had begun to survey lots for the new village.
Dublin was still a small town of only 681 residents as late as 1970, but the construction of Interstate 270 brought in corporate headquarters of major companies such as Wendy’s International and Ashland Inc. The subsequent development of the Muirfield Village Golf Club and its residential subdivision attracted many affluent citizens to the rapidly growing town and finally, in 1987, Dublin was declared a city with a population of 5,000 residents.
The city attracts a large number of golf aficionados every year when it hosts the annual Memorial Tournament. The tournament is a stop on the PGA Tour, and consequently, many golfers and their families make Dublin their home.
