Dublin, Ohio sits in three counties: Franklin, Delaware, and Union. The earliest settlers arrived in Dublin in 1802, although the village did not begin to take shape until the Sells family arrived from Huntingdon, Pennsylvania. The Sells brothers, Perter and Benjamin, purchased 400 acres of land on the banks of the Scito River as a gift for their brother, John. John brought his family to the region in 1808, and by 1810 he and his partner, John Shields, had begun to survey lots for the new village.
Dublin was still a small town of only 681 residents as late as 1970, but the construction of Interstate 270 brought in corporate headquarters of major companies such as Wendy’s International and Ashland Inc. The subsequent development of the Muirfield Village Golf Club and its residential subdivision attracted many affluent citizens to the rapidly growing town and finally, in 1987, Dublin was declared a city with a population of 5,000 residents.
The city attracts a large number of golf aficionados every year when it hosts the annual Memorial Tournament. The tournament is a stop on the PGA Tour, and consequently, many golfers and their families make Dublin their home. There are many golf courses in Dublin, further solidifying this city as a golfer’s ideal home. The Riviera Golf Club and the Tartan Fields Golf Club can both be found in Dublin, as well as the public golf course financed by the Murfield association.
Dublin’s many other annual events attract visitors and residents alike for entertainment the whole family can enjoy. These include the Dublin Irish Festival, a 4th of July music festival, and a St. Patrick’s Day parade.
Dublin is home to over 1,000 acres of parks, which include 77 miles of scenic bike trails. Many of the parks are located along the Scioto River, giving access to small watercraft for motor-boating and sailing. The suburb of Dublin is dotted with large estates in the more affluent areas, single-family homes in working class neighborhoods, and a variety of apartment buildings. Dublin is conveniently located near many shopping centers and dining options, and a short drive from Columbus.
