Worthington is a suburb to the north of Columbus, Ohio. Founded in 1803 by the Scioto Company, the city was named for Thomas Worthington, who later became Ohio’s governor. Many of the city’s original commercial buildings and churches still stand on the village green in downtown Worthington. A town that is proud of its New England heritage, Worthington strives to retain a historic feel in the preservation of its downtown area.
Worthington sits at the center of Ohio’s crossroads, U.S. State Route 23 and State Route 161, affording the residents easy access to all parts of the state. Three freeways run through the city (I-270, I-71, and SR 315) as well, making Worthington a convenient suburb to call home. Worthington offers all of the conveniences and attractions of a big city with the combined charm of small town living.
The Peggy R. McConnell Arts Center provides programming and classes to residents of Worthington. The city also hosts regular performances by theater, choral, and visual arts groups at the Worthington Community Theater. The Worthington Community Center features a fitness center, aquatic center, a leisure pool and a lap pool, swimming lessons, basketball courts, and art studios.
Downtown Worthington is full of restored shops and independent restaurants. Many of the eateries offer outdoor dining for a fun experience in the historic district of the city. Worthington Place also features a wide variety of boutiques, and the community is sponsoring continuing revitalization efforts to add more shopping opportunities for the residents.
